Issue #8 | Don’t Just Start a Health Business—Start the Right One
October 06, 2026
Dear,

Welcome to another edition of Health Business Growth Insider.

If you’ve ever thought about starting a health or wellness business in Nigeria, you have probably discovered that there is no shortage of ideas.

You could start a wellness coaching business.

Offer massage or reflexology.

Sell health and wellness products.

Start a health equipment business.

Create health education programs.

Build a health information website.

Offer digital marketing services to health practitioners.

Or develop another business around a skill or area of knowledge you already possess.

But here’s the question that matters most:

Which health business is right for YOU?

The most popular idea isn’t necessarily the best one.

The business that looks profitable on social media isn’t necessarily the right fit.

And the business someone else is succeeding with may not suit your skills, resources, personality, or goals.

The right business begins with strategy.

This Week’s Practical Lesson
Don’t Start With “What Business Can I Start?”

Don’t Start With “What Business Can I Start?”

Start With Four Better Questions.

When people want to start a business, they often begin by asking:

“What business can I start with little money?”

That’s understandable—but it’s not enough.

Instead, begin with these four questions.

1. What Can I Already Do Well?

Look at your existing knowledge and skills.

Do you have health or wellness training?

Are you good at teaching?

Can you sell?

Do you enjoy working one-on-one with people?

Are you good at writing or creating content?

Do you understand digital marketing?

Do you have experience with products, equipment, or customer service?

Your existing strengths can give you a starting advantage.

2. Who Do I Want to Help?

Don’t say:

“Everybody who wants to be healthy.”

That’s too broad.

Instead, identify a specific group.

For example:

“I help busy professionals develop healthier wellness routines.”

Or:

“I provide foot wellness services for people who spend long hours standing.”

A clearer audience makes it easier to create an offer and communicate your value.

3. What Problem Can I Solve?

People don’t normally pay because you have a business.

They pay because your business provides something they value.

So ask:

What problem can I help solve?

Then ask an even more important question:

Who has this problem badly enough to pay for a solution?

This question can save you from spending money developing a business that nobody actually wants.

4. How Will People Find Me?

This is one of the most overlooked questions when starting a business.

You can have an excellent product or service and still struggle if potential customers don’t know you exist.

Before investing heavily in equipment, products, branding, or office space, think about how customers will discover you.

Possible channels include:

Google Search

Your professional website

Google Business Profile

Social media

WhatsApp

Referrals

Partnerships

Email marketing

Local networking

Paid advertising

A business idea without a customer-acquisition strategy is only an idea.

The real transformation occurs when you connect the idea to a specific customer, problem, offer, marketing system, and revenue model.

Quick Digital Marketing Tip

Think About Customer Acquisition Before You Launch

Here’s a simple exercise.

Imagine that you have launched your health business today.

Now ask:

“Where will my first 10 customers come from?”

Don’t answer:

“Social media.”

Be more specific.

For example:

3 from Google Search

2 from referrals

2 from WhatsApp

2 from local partnerships

1 from an existing contact

You don’t have to use those exact numbers.

The point is to force yourself to think about where actual customers will come from.

Then ask:

“What will make those people choose me?”

This leads naturally to positioning, content, reviews, your website, Google Business Profile, offers, follow-up, and trust-building.

Marketing shouldn’t be something you think about after starting the business.

Marketing is part of the business model. https://www.nigeriawebsuccess.com/turn-your-knowledge-into-cash.html

Case Study

Two Entrepreneurs. Two Very Different Approaches.

Consider two people who both want to start a wellness business.

Entrepreneur A

She sees that massage businesses are popular and immediately buys equipment, rents a space, prints flyers, and starts advertising.

Her question is:

“How do I get people to come?”

Entrepreneur B

He also wants to start a wellness business, but first asks:

Who do I want to serve?

He identifies a specific customer group.

Then he asks:

What problem do they have?

He develops a focused service around that problem.

Next:

How will they find me?

He develops his website, Google presence, WhatsApp strategy, referrals, and educational content before investing heavily.

Both entrepreneurs may work hard.

But Entrepreneur B has started with a business strategy, not simply a business idea.

The lesson?

Don’t confuse activity with progress.

You can spend money and work very hard while moving in the wrong direction.

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do before launching is to stop and think.

One Final Thought

A health business doesn’t become successful simply because the idea is good.

There is a progression:

Business Idea → Target Customer → Problem → Offer → Online Presence → Marketing → Leads → Customers → Growth

If one of these stages is weak, the business can struggle—even when the original idea is excellent.

So before you ask:

“Which health business should I start?”

Ask:

“Which business fits my skills, serves a real need, and gives me a realistic path to finding customers?”

That’s a much better question.

And sometimes, finding the answer can save you months—or even years—of trial and error.
