Persistence in Business is the Key to Success
June 01, 2015
Hello,

The importance of persistence in business can never be over-emphasized. If you have the best of vision or idea for a business, you may still never be able to attain the success you desire without being persistent at what you do.

In this post, focus will be on persistence in characteristic of successful person, along with one or two examples, as well as how you can develop the habit of being persistent to achieve the much-desired success in your business.

Why Persistence in Business is Important

Many successful entrepreneurs will tell you that it was not easy for them to reach the height they got to in life -- they faced obstacles and challenges. The main difference between these people and those who do not succeed in business is often persistence.

Obstacles and failures are realities people in business will have to grapple with at one point or the other.

When these strike, it is your level of persistence that will greatly determine whether you will come out good or fall by the way side.

Persistence in business keeps you going, making you willing to put in more efforts to avoid or better deal with experienced failure or challenge in the future.

There are many stories highlighting the importance of persistence in achieving success in any venture. One of these is that of the legendary United States President Abraham Lincoln. He failed several times in elections, but he was not deterred from forging on in pursuit of his dream until eventually becoming the 16th President of the U.S.

Back home here in Nigeria, the recent election of General Muhammadu Buhari as the president of the country is another good example of persistent in the characteristic of successful person.

The former military Head of State, who was overthrown by General Ibrahim Babangida-led coup in 1985 after spending less than two years in office, had lost three previous presidential elections -- in 2003, in 2007 and 2011.

While many people made fun of and wrote off the general, he was undaunted. Buhari re-assessed his strategy and formed useful alliances en route his victory in the 2015 elections.

How to Be Persistent in Business

Here are a few tips you can use to achieve persistence in business:

Have a clear goal - A goal (or goals) is vital for a business. It indicates what you aim to achieve in that business. Having a goal gives you something you can set your eyes on and persistently work towards achieving. Break down this goal into bits you can easily work on to make the complete achievement more realistic.

Be passionate about what you do - Money should not be your only driving force in a business. You should be passionate about what you do. It is this passion that will keep you going when the going gets tough in your business.

Know that failure may come - Failures are most times not completely avoidable in some ventures. It pays to have this at the back of your mind from the start, so that when you experience one you do not become disorientated. Rather, take whatever lessons there are to learn from a failure to fine-tune your strategy.

Find yourself a mentor - There are people who have more experiences than you in business. You can find tips and advice from such people quite helpful in enhancing your level of persistence in business.

Mentors could be people you already know, but it is often hard finding people willing to help. You could as well link with experts that can serve as your mentor on the Net.

You should not give up easily on your business goals, provided they are realistic. It is your persistence in business that will make you take that all-important step that could land you in success after experiencing a failure.

I hope you find the information useful.

Yours in success,
